Road Repave Update
We had a large turn out at the Open Board meeting on Sunday, September 21, Three topics were brought to the table:
- What should we do about the condition of the roads?
- Who should we hire to do the work?
- How should we pay for the work?
For each question, all members present were given time to share their opinions. After hearing from all who wanted to share, the decision that was most popular was presented and members were asked for agreement by a show of hands. At that point the board mad a motion reflecting the members' choice and voted.
For each choice, the members were nearly unanimous in their support and the Board vote for the matching motion was unanimous. The motions voted in were:
- All roads in Cape Malibu should be repaved.
- Members felt it would be unfair if some people paid for road repairs but did not get new roads in front of their home
- Ask the County to assist with the repaving effort
- This choice will require all roads be turned over to the County after repaving
- The County will pave the roads for cost of materials (a savings of $670,000 over hiring a private contractor)
- Assess each homeowner an equal part of the expected $355,000 cost
- The sentiment expressed by the majority of property owners was that we all use the road equally so should all pay equally
For the County to assist us, we need 90% of all members to sign a petition to turn the roads over to the County.
